I came across this in a Youtube video, which was supposedly Ella Fitzgerald singing "Stormy Weather." After listening to the recording it was very clear that it most certainly was not Ella, but in fact Kay Starr. Many commenters, however, were convinced it was Ella, arguing that the recording was featured on a album called Tenderly. Some even said they owned the album and were certain this was the song.
Just now, as I was listening to a Spotify station, the track came up. It was "Stormy Weather" from the album Tenderly by Ella Fitzgerald and Louie Armstrong.
My question is "How could this have happened?" Was the album just compiled recklessly and someone didn't notice that they put a Kay Starr recording on it?

I'm calling this a lazy mistake, not an honest mistake. Somebody failed to do their job, somebody whos doesn't give a rat's behind about jazz, singers or fans.
Like Columbia Records non-researched liner notes leading to the Robert Johnson myth at the crossroads (it was TOMMY Johnson), this error could confuse new fans of great jazz singers. Oh no, I'm not criticizing Kay Starr, but she was no Ella Fitzgerald.
